Perception

There are perceptions about physical education teachers all the time. When most people think about p.e. teachers they think we don't do anything, roll out the basketballs and read the paper, that we get paid to play, and have no academic knowledge of anything. These are labels that I'm not proud to hear when I think of my job title. From my experience, physical education teachers are the most interactive teachers at school. Physical education teachers get the chance to spend time with all students. As a p.e. teacher I interact with 400 plus students of grades k-4th at least twice a week. Classroom teachers will interact with 25 plus students of the particular grade they teach unless they are on some type of duty. So p.e. teachers have a chance to impact more lives. The point of this is that p.e. teachers deserve the same respect as any other teachers. Before people use all the bad labels about p.e. teachers think about how many lives they are impacting on a daily basis. This is what makes us so important to our comunity and schools.

My Role

Before I started teaching I always wondered how I would fit in as a teacher. Well now I'm starting to see a little. As a young African American male teaching in elementary I am rare. What I bring to the table as a teacher is hard for any other teacher to duplicate. There are so many students that do not have fathers or positive male role models in their lives at all. The other big issue is a positive African American male role model that students can have a positive relationship with. This is an issue in today's society there is so much negative when it comes to young males that it can be dangerous to future generations. I feel like I can do my part in helping this situation by being that positive male figure at school or in my community, so maybe it might help someone in our future generation be positive citizens. That's why I enjoy teaching because its a chance to help change the world by sometimes just being who you are.

National Tournament

This year I have been blessed to coach a 5th grade girls basketball team. My first time coaching girls it has been a good experience for me. I have grown a lot as a coach and they have as players. These girls are rare, most of them are in the same school district and a lot of them have been knowing each other since they were five years old. They have great attitudes, personalities, and are super athletic for girls this age. I enjoy the mixture, they have so much potential to do well. I'm just glad I'm getting a chance to help build a foundation at this early stage of their lives.

This Summer

This summer has been something else I thought I would get some rest and relaxation. That has not happen yet I have been just as occupied as I am during the school year. That is not a good sign because if I don't slow down I won't make it during the school year. I guess if a person want to accomplish anything you have be occupied some. I will just tough it up and accomplish whatever I need to in order to help me be a better teacher.

Physical Ed.

Well this is my first time experiencing all this technology. Just when you think you kind of mastered something there is something new. The best thing about all of this is how technology is constantly evolving and I think that is great. As a physical education teacher we don't get a chance to experience as much technology qualities as other teachers because our jobs are based on the physical aspect.
